Building a Programme
Tailored to meet the needs, age, and goals of the athlete, building a training program can be as exciting as it is imposing. While there are many considerations, there are two factors – and a number of building blocks – that you need to consider. Their sporting history and specifics of their event.
First, it is important to consider the athlete’s age and experience. This should start by building around the four key areas: sprints, endurance, throws, and jumps. These can begin with short 100m bursts before gradually building to 5-10k endurance events.
This should also factor in whether the individual is taking part in a team event. In which case, they should focus on acceleration, speed, or whatever elements make up their event. This can allow you to develop a framework for the training and build a dedicated, fit-for-purpose plan.
